VeraSol has proposed revisions to the IEC 62253:2011, an international standard for Photovoltaic Pumping Systems- Design Qualification and Performance Measurements. The revisions aim to enhance the standard by creating a series of sub-parts. These sub-parts will organize the test methods and standards based on pump category and settings for laboratory and field testing. Stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on these proposed revisions by 14th May 2024.

About the proposed revisions

VeraSol will initially focus on developing the first sub-part, which will concentrate on test methods for small-scale (<2kW PV power) lab-tested solar water pumps (SWPs). This sub-part will modify some of the performance test methods currently in IEC 62253:2011 and include the test methods outlined in the Global LEAP Solar Water Pump (SWP) Test Method.

The revisions aim to specify appropriate test methods, requirements, and recommendations for small-scale (<2kW PV power) SWPs tested in a laboratory setting. Some of the test methods and requirements in the existing version of IEC 62253:2011 are not applicable to small-scale pumps and are intended for field-testing settings. The proposed changes will establish the groundwork for future revisions to be proposed by other stakeholders. These revisions could include additional sub-parts with test methods and requirements specific to other SWP types and applications.

Feedback received will be crucial in establishing the technical foundation for scaling solar water pumps globally. Share your feedback via this form.
